    Spend the evening with OSU Extension’s Marne Titchenell and Carrie Brown as we discuss all things bats at the beautiful Coyote Run Nature Preserve in Fairfield County.  Learn the status of Ohio’s bats, how to provide habitat in forests and backyard spaces, and how researchers study bats! The evening will conclude with a walk around the preserve using equipment to listen in on bat echolocation calls.

    Woodland Owners and Maple Production: Is It an Income Are you a woodland owner who would like to produce an annual income from their property?  It can be difficult to achieve an annual income but maple production may be the answer. This class will introduce woodland owners to the ins and outs of maple syrup production.  Is your woods suitable?  How involved do you want to be?  How much are you willing to invest into such an endeavor?  We will start inside and finish the day outside looking at equipment options.

    Join Rebecah Troutman Natural Areas Biologist from Holden Forests and Gardens to learn about a newly discovered enemy of the invasive garlic mustard that may help us in our fight against the pesky plant. This webinar will teach participants how to find and identify Liaphis alliariae, a garlic mustard specialist aphid native to Europe. In the 2021 field season during routine garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata) management, at the Holden Arboretum in northeast Ohio, the Natural Areas Biologist noticed damaged garlic mustard plants infested with aphids.

In this lunch and learn, join OSU’s Marne Titchenell, Extension Program Director in Wildlife, as we learn about Ohio’s amphibians. Learn frog and toad calls and how to identify salamanders. After lunch, we will explore a vernal pool and streamside in search of frogs, toads, and sallies!

    Landowners usually create trails to better access and enjoy their property.  However, sometimes those same trails can create issues for the landowner.  Join OSU’s Jamie Hampton, Extension Educator, Auglaize Co. And Peggy Hall OSU Agriculture and Resource Law to talk  about how to build and maintain the trails you have running through your woods.  Peggy will cover the liability of these trails for you and your users. What do you need to consider, what liabilities should you be aware of and how can you make this all work in your favor.

    Otters were extirpated from Ohio in the early 1900’s and reintroduced in 1986. Since then, the population has increased across Ohio. Join Stan Gehrt, OSU Extension Wildlife Specialist and Professor within the School of Environment and Natural Resources, as we discuss the ecology and status of river otters.

    Can you identify trees with leaves? What about without leaves? Identifying trees in winter can be a real challenge. This is an advanced class for individuals who are familiar with using a dichotomous key.  This one day workshop is designed to give participants in-depth training and practice on identifying trees without the leaves. The class begins indoors with some introductory identification clues and samples. A guide for identifying trees by fruit and twigs will be utilized for a major portion of the class. The afternoon portion of the class may be outside—weather and time depending.

    This workshop is an annual event for landowners in the tri-state area.  Experts from Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky collaborate each year to put together a program that is geared towards meeting landowners needs.  Topics often include those up and coming issues that woodland owners are dealing with or will have to deal with at some time in the future.
