From Forests to Furniture
Primary tabs
Join us for a day touring Ohio's forests and the industry that puts an estimated $22 billion dollars into the economy. The day starts at the Ohio State University Mansfield campus where we will tour a sampling of our forest resources and cover some of the challenges todays woodland owners face. We will look at the impact of invasives such as emerald ash borer and how that impacts wildlife, timber and other goals that landowners may have.
From there we will load the bus and head to Yoder Lumber - (Buckhorn plant) where we follow the logs harvested from the woods and see them turned into lumber. Yoder has a state of the art sawmill along with kilns used to dry the lumber. While on the bus we will hear from Matt Baumgardner of the U.S. Forest Service on the unique furniture industry the Amish have created here in Ohio.
The third stop of the tour is at HW Chair. Here see how those parts that started out as some landowners trees become furniture.
